The members of the volunteer council represent every sector in the rare disease world. The Department of Health and Human Services Rare Disease Advisory council consists of: physicians who practice in the area of cardiology, emergency care, neurology, oncology, orthopedics, pediatrics, or primary care and provide care to patients with rare diseases; nurses who provide care to these patients; hospital administrators; clinics that provide care to patients with rare diseases; organizations that provide services to these patients; and individuals (aged 18 years or older) living with a rare disease or parents who have cared for a child with a rare disease.
